Goodbye Our Friend

Age does not matter, and though you were 88, you were one of the youngest 88's I have or will ever meet. Your trips to ski in Goussa really ended but a few years ago though that town continued to call you each and every year. I can't imagine how many there will miss you.

Austria did you bad. Not doubt their affliation with the German empire of past took so much from you not only, so much more than any of us could ever imagine. Yet you forgave them, as much as any person possibly could, and even returned to Styr and were proud of the fact that you were born there. You did not shut the door on that part of your life.

Your contributions to the formation of this country are legendary. I know what you did, to some extent, and though I don't believe in that type of violence I did not live during that time. I will always remember photographing your 80th and seeing the little grey haired old woman who blew up bridges with you.

When I called E to tell her the news she cried pretty hard. She truly loved you and will miss both the compliments you always gave her and the friendship too. I will miss the talks and the connection that you provided me to the the past. The doors you opened. J
