1. Today's ride was wonderful in some respects. One Hundred and eleven KM and 1530 meters of climbing. Though a bit hot at the end, it was a nice challenge and I was able to keep the speeds pretty high on this solo ride. I do wonder, however, why these motorcyclists on their very, very powerful bikes are allowed to go at the speeds I am observing. I assume they are going 175 to 200 KPH. The roads are small and it is just a matter of time until they collide with one of us. Where are the police? I can tell you just where these guys are going to be each Saturday, so it seems pretty easy to stop this.
2. Was looking for a place to park yesterday near the beach. I traveled slowly on a quiet side road, 30 K or so, looking for a spot. This guy got 10 centimeters from my bumper and started honking. Foolishly, and I do mean this, I let him know what I thought about this (figure it out). I eventually found a large parking lot, left my car, then looked back to see this guy get out of his car and walk towards mine. I turned around and confronted him. He told me he was a cop and that he was going to give me a ticket. I basically said, and believe it or not I was actually respectful, that he should. In fact, I asked him to write it out there and then so that I could go to court and question as to why he so dangerously tailgated me in the manner that he did when it was obvious I was looking for parking. He walked away. However, I did take his license for my paranoia kicked in. Another reason I should never get into such conflicts.
3. This extremely overweight teacher whom I rarely ever speak to, sent an Email to me today with a link from NPR which tells about a Stanford study that says organic foods are basically not any better for you or better tasting than those that are sprayed. Who cares? I don't. I have no idea about the half-life of pesticides nor how easily they are washed away. I do know that I don't have to worry about all of this if I buy organic in the first place. I'd rather take my chances and just spend the extra. In the end run, I am well-aware that when I ride home from work at rush hour, I am doing a good deal of damage to my health breathing in the fumes. I am also aware that there is a lot of other things that we are exposed to that we have no control of and that these things are detrimental to our health. I don't think going down hills at 70K is smart, nor do I believe that 4-5 hour bike rides are really that good for you. Yup, I do a lot of stupid things. However, I'll keep buying organic for I think that this is one less stupid thing that I can do to make my life a bit more healthy. As for this this teacher, why she out of the blue sent this to me makes no sense. Our students continue to get fatter and sicker. We now have two bake sales per week. Our kiosk is one-step better than a joke. We better think about this and worry less about Moodle and Lighthouse if we want to have kids who are truly available to learn.
Have a good week all!
