Thus far the olympics have been great to watch though Eurosport devotes way, way, way too much time to Curling. Sorry, if this is considered a sport than why not have chess included? To me, sport has to have the components of endurance, strength, and coordination. I am sure that purists might attack me for saying this, but hey it's how I see it.
On the other hand, there is speed skating. Next to cross country skiing, which I love and still escape from our land of sand to do every now and then, speed skating seems like it would have been the sport I would have been most attracted to if I had lived in an area where such a sport was practiced (as it was, I grew up as wrestler and lacrosse player wanna be in my little West Hartford villiage). Shani Davis, now the first African American to win an individual title in the Olympics and Joey Cheek have stood out to me. Cheek donates his winnings and speaks about the Sudan (as I have in postings over the last year on this blog) and Davis is breaking down walls (though I don't believe he or his supporters fully believe this as I do). Both are strong individuals and both will be very successful in their lives. I feel bad for people like Bode Miller and Chad Hedrick who so much was expected from. They are totally at the mercy of the the money G-ds who care nothing for their success but see them as marketing jewels. Guess they will have to re-think this a bit as their glitter has been somewhat dimmed. However...let's give Bode his due. The Olympics (to me) are not nearly as important as being points leader over a year and Bode's accomplishments last year were stunning. Not many Americans realize his greatness and that it goes well beyond his brashness (though I don't really think he's brash, I just think he's been made to look that way).
Candy is waiting to go out. Bye
