I've Never Been 49

Just read Jodie Foster's quote she made at the Penn Graduation: "Your Penn education has given you a two-by-four. You may build a building or hit someone over the head."

I guess that is what education is all about. We have the choice to use or brains constructively, destructively, or let them sit and mold.

I received a letter from a politically active friend of mine today. He included an article by a writer who gave his version of the political situation here. Though he might be correct in his appraisal, it is nothing more than his appraisal. He gave no sources yet proclaimed events and their causation as fact. I think writers need to acknowledge that their suppositions many times come from a distance and that they do not always live the things they write about.

It's funny, I turned 49 in February but I never tell anybody that this is actually my age. When somebody asks my age, I always find myself saying that I am "almost 50." Thus, until February 16 of next year, I am going to live out my 49nth the right way. I am not 50 yet and will only begin living 50 when the time arrives.

However...

I do feel like 50 at times. Minor aches and pains seep into my joints and I can see the age marks beginning to form on my hands. The body goes through a slow dance that is inevitable and has to be dealt with. However, what's the alternative?
